A good chunk of what we've built over the years has been for tradies — builders, plumbers, sparkies, roofers, concrete crews, fencing contractors, and plenty of others. It's the work we do most of, so we've had a fair bit of practice at it.
Below are some of those sites, along with a few things we've picked up along the way about what actually makes a difference for a trade business.

A Helensville family business that's been shifting dirt since 1996, with a fleet of over ninety machines. Earthworks, land development, retaining walls and environmental controls on subdivisions right across Auckland.
Justin has been laying asphalt around Auckland for more than thirty years, from single residential driveways through to commercial carparks and council reinstatement work. Waiheke included.
A family-run Raglan business holding certifications in three separate trades — plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying. Thirty years covering the coast and the wider Waikato, with each trade on its own page.
Registered electricians working out of Warkworth and covering Matakana, Snells Beach, Omaha, Silverdale and the wider Rodney region. Switchboards, new house wiring and around-the-clock callouts.
Roofing and waterproofing run out of Hobsonville, with branches in Christchurch and the Bay of Plenty. Long run, membrane, shingles and re-roofs across both residential and commercial work.
Licensed Building Practitioners based in Epsom, covering carpentry, joinery, welding and painting under one roof. Residential renovations through to warehouses and school buildings.
Scott has been spraying shotcrete since 2002 — retaining walls, pool shells, skate parks and remedial structures. Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton and Whangārei, and most places between.
Robbie and Rick lay paving, brickwork and blockwork from Auckland through to the Coromandel. Driveways, pool surrounds and patios, with reclaimed brick when the job calls for it.
Allan puts up fences anywhere from the North Shore down to Pukekohe, and is an approved Kāinga Ora supplier. Boundary fences, insurance work, and removal of whatever was there before.
Matt supplies and installs entrance doors, bifolds, barn sliders and hardware across Auckland, the North Shore, Rodney and Waitākere. Twenty years of hanging doors that sit square.
Sam tiles bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools and floors from a base in Albany, and handles the waterproofing that goes underneath. Patterned work is where he tends to show off.
Geoff only paints interiors, and only around Orewa and the Hibiscus Coast. Master Painter qualified, twenty-five years in, and sitting at 99% on NoCowboys across eighty-odd ratings.

See the full portfolio →None of this is complicated, and none of it costs extra. It's just what we've learned is worth getting right when the people finding you are usually on a phone and usually after one specific thing.
Most people landing on a trade site are on a phone, and a good number of them would rather ring you than fill in a form. So the number sits in the header on every page, and it dials when you tap it. It sounds obvious, but it's missing from a lot of the sites we get asked to look at.
People tend to search using their own suburb rather than the city. If your site only says "Auckland wide", you're unlikely to come up for someone in Titirangi or Whangaparāoa who's looking for someone local. We list the areas properly, and where it's worth doing, give the bigger ones a page of their own — the way KE Electrical covers Warkworth and Rodney.
Stock photos of someone else holding a shovel don't really do anything. Pictures of work you've finished do, especially if it's the sort of job the person looking is about to book. We'll set up a gallery that works properly on a phone, and show you how to add to it yourself as you go.
If you do drainlaying and gasfitting, those are two different searches by two different people. Put both halfway down one long services page and neither gets much of a look in. Giving each one its own page means it can be found on its own terms, and the person reading gets the detail they came for.
