So you have a website - what next?
It's important to keep in mind that a website will not automatically generate customers as soon as it is created. If we have designed your site, it will be set up in the best possible way for search engines to find you, but remember that competition is fierce and getting visitors to your site is an ongoing process.
Here are some suggestions for improving the number of visitors to your site:
- Create a Facebook account for your business. It's free to set up and allows visitors to interact with you. Linking between your website and Facebook will also improve your position with search engines.
- Tell your friends and family about the site and get them to visit it BUT ask them to click at least one link on the site and stay on for upwards of 10 seconds. If they just look at it for a couple of seconds then navigate away, search engines consider this a 'bounce' (an unwanted search result) so will lower you in their ranking.
- Search for your site using different search engines and on different computers. Follow the same rules as point 2 though - don't just click away from your site.
- Put your website address in the signature line of your email, and get it printed on your business cards and other promotional material.
- Check visitor statistics regularly. All the sites we design have Google Analytics installed, which means you can check how many visitors you are getting, where they are coming from, what words they used to find you and a lot more information. If you have a site designed by us and don't have your username and password to access the statistics, just contact us.
- Consider paying for some advertising. Google Adwords can be setup so that you pay to have your search results pushed to the top. We don't recommend continually spending on Adwords, but it can help to get your site seen at least initially, and get the ball rolling.
